"Portland is awash with musical talent, and while cross-pollination takes place regularly when scenes overlap, there are a lot of musicians who rarely, if ever, get a chance to play together. The Get Down Funk Collective allows for one-off showcase shows. Opening in April of 2022, The Get Down is a 400-capacity venue that has gained a reputation for doing thing right by musicians and music-loving patrons alike. The first three episodes of the funk collective featured musicians who have played with the likes of John Legend, Bootsy Collins, Joshua Redman, The Motet, Liv Warfield and Stevie Wonder. The collective uses songs from bands like The Meters, Billy Preston, and The Headhunters as improvisational launching pads."
